Frequently asked questions
How much do sessions cost?
Sessions are very reasonably priced at £50 for the initial session, and then £40 for subsequent sessions. Stop Smoking sessions are £150 for up to two hours, followed by a booster session a week or two later. Often success can be found in very few sessions (sometimes even one), so this is excellent value. Think about the various costs of not getting your issue resolved!
What are your credentials?
- BSc Psychology and Neuroscience
- Certified Master Hypnotist
- Diploma as a Clinical Hypnotherapist
- Practitioner in Neurolinguistic Programming
- Trained with: Ernest Rossi in London (who collaborated with the world's foremost hypnotherapist Milton Erickson on many volumes of hypnotherapy for the medical and professional community); Gil Boyne in California (internationally respected hypnotherapist and trainer, favoured by Hollywood celebrities).
- NHS Trained Smoking Specialist, 2 years experience of helping hundreds of inpatients quit smoking whilst working at large hospital.
I also continue to grow my personal resources, through wide study and development of new ideas.
I know someone who went to see a hypnotherapist, it didn't work.
Different hypnotherapists can vary widely in style, skills and awareness. Unfortunately, many enter the profession without making a firm commitment towards continuous study and development. Such practitioners lack flexibility and aren't receptive enough to the clients individual patterns, situation and needs. They may read generic scripts from a book, in the hope that 'something works'.
My approach is that there is no 'it'. Its about exploring your thoughts, perceptions, feelings and beliefs and learning resourcefully to get more positive results. Hypnosis is a perfectly natural and innate resource that we are all able to respond to.
I have (a certain situation), can hypnosis help me?
For a more specific answer, feel free to ask via email, writing, calling or using the form above. Certain issues are dealt with in more detail on the site - click the relevant button on the list to the left. Generally speaking, hypnosis can help with any situation where you have developed a limitation or barrier as a result of your experiences. Everyone is born confident and open minded - its the minds ability to absorb so much information during the early years of life that can lead to some mis-associations or false understandings. Similarly, even later in life situations can gradually erode or influence our subconscious beliefs and perceptions about things. This can lead to a myriad of consequences, from weight gain to low self-worth to phobias or anxieties. Hypnotherapy provides resources and self-awarenesses to be able to be more aware, and therefore control, these processes.
What is your success rate?
I enjoy a good success rate, and recieve excellent feedback from my clients. Of course, hypnotherapy is an art as well as a psychological discipline, and there may be a few clients who don't achieve the success they are after. In such situations as always I am always honest about things, and will say if I don't think I'm the right practitioner for them. However, I will add that many clients achieve far more than they expected to, finding other areas positively affected by their experiences. Some testimonials are posted around the site, in relevant sections. Also, I educate and teach various skills and awarenesses to provide something useful so that everyone has something to gain.
Haven't I seen articles in the paper about you being a specialist stop smoking advisor?
Yes. I worked as an inpatient smoking cessation advisor at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to gain wider awarenesses about the addiction. During this time I researched many angles of smoking and now offer what I believe to be one of the most multi-layered approaches to quitting. My success rate is very good - I even offer a free booster session if needed. My specialist quit smoking CD is available here, and my specialist smoking site is here.
What if I'm not hypnotisable?
Hypnosis is an innate resource that we all have. You go in and out of trance all day long, depending on what you are attending to. For example, sometimes you are focussed on external stimuli, sometimes more on the internal images and thoughts that you have. Hypnosis used as part of hypnotherapy is about directing your attention towards areas that allow a more subconscious learning to take place.
Everyone can therefore enjoy the process of hypnosis, as long as you have the ability to listen, follow instructions, respond and learn. Its a very powerful resource that everyone is entitled to experience and enjoy.
Isn't being hypnotised like losing control?
Hypnosis actually gives more control, and enhanced awareness. Its a process of directing your own mental attention to allow subconscious learning and resolution to take place. Its far removed from anything you might have seen on TV - stage hypnosis is a different end of the scale where people are chosen carefully for their exhibitive and responsive personalities.
You can't be made to do anything against your wishes - you are always in control.
When do you hold your hypnotherapy sessions?
Sessions are normally held in the afternoons, but also mornings, evenings and weekends.
How do I go about making an appointment, and what happens next?
Contact me using any of the available channels, giving some brief information about your situation, asking any questions you need to, letting me know you would like to make an appointment, and your availability or preferred dates and times. I will then let you know if they are available. Once booked, I email or send you an appointment pack, containing an appointment letter, directions/maps, an intake form, and a general information sheet about hypnotherapy. If more convenient - I can just give you the password to the clients area (at the top of the list to the left) so you can download it yourself.
Where are you located?
By the Exeter canal, a short walk from the Quay. The surroundings are peaceful and quiet, allowing clients to enjoy a walk if they so wish before or after the session.
